

Clinical Exercise and Post Injury Rehabilitation Specialist
Expand Your Knowledge in Clinical Exercise and Rehabilitation
Presented by Andre Noel Potvin, M.Sc. Cardiac Rehabilitation, ACE, BCRPA-TFL, ACSM, recognized by the British Columbia Recreation and Parks Association (BCRPA) and The American Council on Exercise (ACE) for providing Continuing Education Credits (CEC), the Clinical Exercise & Rehabilitation Workshop Series (CES) are a select group of courses specifically designed for the Fitness Trainer that has interest in expanding their knowledge in clinical exercise and rehabilitation. Students will learn foundation knowledge in exercise rehabilitation, training special population groups, and advanced knowledge in fitness testing and assessments.
Requirements
- Must be 18-years of age
- The ability to speak English
- Certified Personal Trainer or equivalent
Infofit’s Clinical Exercise Specialist Programs do not require approval by the registrar of the Private Training Institutions Branch (PTIB) of the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills & Training. As such, the registrar did not review this program.
In Class workshops are $275.00 and Personalized are $495.00
Exercise Rehabilitation – Shoulder, Elbow, Wrist
The course will educate the fitness trainer on the following objectives:
■ Explaining and implementing the general guidelines for exercise prescription for a variety of common conditions related to the shoulders, elbows and wrists
■ Demonstrating and teaching corrective exercises for a variety of common conditions related to the shoulders, elbows, and wrists.
■ Leave feeling confident that you are helping and not hurting your client or yourself
■ Learning to recognize when a client is able to advance to the next level
■ Learn to describe alternative treatments that are available including the services of other health-care professionals
■ Understand when to refer to another health professional
Exercise Rehabilitation – Hip, Knee, Ankle
The course will educate the fitness trainer on the following objectives:
■ Explaining and implementing the general exercise rehabilitation guidelines and exercise prescription for a variety of common conditions related to the hip, knee and ankle
■ Demonstrate and teaching corrective exercises for a variety of common conditions related to the hip, knee and ankle
■ Leave feeling confident that s/he is helping and not hurting clients
■ Recognize when a client is able to advance to the next level
■ Know when to refer to a health professional
Cardiac Rehabilitation
The course will educate the personal trainer on the following objectives:
■ Demonstrating skill in accurately measuring heart rate, blood pressure, RPE, Talk test at rest, during a graded exercise SubMaxVO2 treadmill test and post-exercise.
■ Developing and implementing an appropriate exercise prescription for stable “low-risk” individuals with cardiovascular disease
■ Adapting exercise prescriptions for the cardiac client to accommodate physical disabilities and complications
■ Instructing cardiac clients in self-management exercise techniques for performing physical activities safely and effectively in unsupervised exercise settings
■ Enhancing fitness professionals’ self-confidence in their ability to work with cardiac clients by detailing the supportive scientific evidence and proven implementation strategies
Training the Aging Population
The course will educate the personal trainer on the following objectives:
Outline the anatomical and physiological changes that occur with age
■ Explain the fitness professional’s scope of practice when working with this population
■ Teach testing protocol for balance, flexibility, functional strength and aerobic capacity
■ Provide suggestions when working with visual, auditory, neurological challenges
■ Provide suggestions working with those with Osteoporosis, Diabetes, Obesity and cardiovascular disease
■ Teach the do / don’t of training the aging client
■ Provide you with program design strategies for balance, flexibility, resistance training and aerobic exercise.
■ The attendee will leave this session with greater confidence in your ability to work with the aging client
Muscle Testing, Function & Exercise
The course will educate the fitness trainer on the following objectives:
■ Explain and implement the general guidelines for exercise prescription for a variety of common conditions related to joint/muscle imbalances
■ Perform simple ROM and muscle tightness tests for the upper and lower extremities
■ Teach exercise protocols to address the needs of the client, as guided by the HCPs recommendations
■ Demonstrate and teach safe corrective exercise protocols for a variety of common conditions related to assessed joint/muscle imbalances
■ Recognize when a client is able to advance to the next level
■ Know when to refer to a health professional
Postural Assessment & Correction
This course will educate the fitness trainer on the following objectives
■ Explain and implement the general guidelines for exercise prescription for a variety of common conditions related to spinal and postural imbalances
■ Demonstrate and teach corrective exercises for three different imbalanced postural types
■ Leave feeling confident in helping others and not hurting clients.
■ Recognize when a client is able to advance to the next level of exercise progression
■ Describe alternative treatments that are available including the services of other health-care professionals
■ Know when to refer to a health professional
Tuition is Tax Deductible. Infofit is a Certified Educational Institution and RESP’s are accepted.

Course Materials
The student will be provided with handouts that detail the specific course content.
Program Duration
The program offers 7 CEC credits and 5 RMT PE; each course totals 7 hours of instructor led training. No homework is required.
Learning Outcomes
Learning outcomes are dependent on individual course content.
Progress & Assessment
Students will be assessed through instructor feedback and mentor-ship throughout the training session.
Attendance Expectations
100% attendance is expected. Those that miss part of the course will be required to make time up with a tutor.
Dress Code
Students are asked to wear comfortable gym wear and running shoes.
